If you haven’t seen Flying Lotus live, you should make a very earnest attempt to do so. It’s a spectacle worth the effort. I saw him play twice in the same weekend a couple of years ago; the first time in a small, smoke-filled room in which some 200 people were crammed from wall to wall, but everyone somehow found the space to dance their asses off. It was wild.

The second was at an open air festival, NH7 Weekender, where he brought out his massive live rig and played the entire set from behind a translucent screen that was exploding in psychedelic colours and shapes the entire time. Definitely one of the most visually stunning musical performances I have ever witnessed, if not the most.

FlyLo’s propensity for doing things that look as cool as they sound is hardly unknown. Just check out all of this.

Flying Lotus live at Primavera

And let’s not forget Kuso, the Flying Lotus’ god-awfully gross debut film that premiered at Sundance this year, and which he wrote in collaboration with David Firth of Salad Fingers fame.

Just this morning, word came in that Flying Lotus will be debuting an all new 3D show at this year’s edition of FYF Fest. The LA Festival will take place from 21-23 July at Exposition Park, and features a mammoth lineup with some of my favorite big and not-so-big names. Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Nicolas Jaar Run the Jewels… and some other personal favorites: Arca + Jesse Kanda, Sleep, Joey Purp… Flying Lotus will play on 21st, which is the same day that Kuso is supposed to become available for streaming.

My new 3D show debuts at FYF! Glasses come with every ticket. See u there.

All tickets to FYF, which can be bought via their official site, will come with a nifty pair of FlyLo themed 3D glasses. We are told, by a representative of the man himself, to get to ready to “experience the unknown”.
